A split test determines which of two landing pages converts best.
So you have a Control Landing page that works as well as possible, according to everything you already know. Then you make a copy of that page, and change just ONE thing! It could be the headline, or the image, or the Call to Action button. Just change one element on the duplicate page, and set this up as a second landing page. Now you compare the results of the original Control page with the new changed page.
If the original page works better, you scrap the change you made, and make a different change.
If the newer version of the page works better, then great! That page now becomes your new Control landing page, and you continue changing one thing at a time, until you have the best converting page you possibly can.
But you still document the changes that didn’t work. You don’t want to waste time testing those same things in the future.
